Disabled need funds more than friends
Thank you for the editorial "Friendship isn't enough" (Sept. 22).
As the sister of a developmentally disabled adult and a board member of Opportunity Builders Inc., I know that it takes more than friendship to help people like my brother live full and productive lives.
Thanks to a group called Bello Machre, my brother has housing, and thanks to OBI, my brother has a job. Both of these organizations rely on public and private financing.
There is never a shortage of friendship for the disabled but always a shortage of financing.
Let's hope we get a community organizer, rather than a friend, in the White House - someone who understands this problem and does something to address it. Lynda DavisLinthicum
