Southwestern Baltimore
Arson Police were seeking the person who doused the stairway of a vacant house in the 100 block of Willard St. with a flammable fluid about 1 a.m. Wednesday and set it ablaze. The fire was confined to much of the stairway between the first and second floors and was quickly extinguished by firefighters. Damage was estimated at $3,500. Anyone with information is asked to call the police district at 410-396-2488.

Robbery The 84-year-old minister of Second Antioch Baptist Church in the 2000 block of E. Baltimore St. was about to enter his parked car near the church about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when a teenager, about 14, demanded the minister's keys while implying he was armed with a handgun. After the minister gave up his keys, the youth drove off in a gray 2007 Ford Taurus with tags 4DY R58. Anyone with information is asked to call the district's detective unit at 410-396-2422.

Victim identified Police released yesterday the name of the man fatally shot Monday night while he and two other men walked down a footpath near a school in West Baltimore. Police said Carlton Tremain Bethea, 29, of the 2200 block of E. Chase St. and two friends were walking near Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Elementary School in the 500 block of W. Preston St. about 9:30 p.m. when all three were shot by an unknown assailant. They were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where Bethea died of a bullet wound to the head. The other men, whose names were not released, survived. Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-0276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and an indictment.

Shooting Police responding to a report of a man shot in the 2200 block of Booth St. near Bon Secours Hospital about 11 a.m. Monday found a man bleeding from gunshot wounds to the chest, the right arm and right leg. The victim, 25, was taken by a city Fire Department ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. His condition was not available and no arrest had been made.

Robberies Two Morgan State University students, a man, 20, and a woman, 19, were walking in the 1100 block of E. Belvedere Ave. about 9:15 p.m. Sunday when they were stopped by two men who asked the male student for the time. When the students continued on their way, one of the men pulled out a handgun. The robbers stole the man's watch and car keys. They then robbed the woman of her purse containing a cell phone, a digital camera and other property. The robbers fled on foot, and no injuries were reported.

Victim identified Police yesterday identified Clarence Hamlett Jr., 22, of the 1200 block of Parrish St. as the man fatally shot Aug. 28 at Laurens and Stricker streets. No arrest had been made.

Burglary Police were seeking two men who entered the Southgate Industrial Park in the 2100 block of Wicomico St. Tuesday and drove off in a red pickup truck containing an undisclosed amount of scrap metal.

4 killed in 15 weekend shootings in the city
A 58-year-old woman was hit by a bullet fired into her Southwest Baltimore home early Saturday morning after two men came to her door demanding information about a killing, police said.
