Md. health officials track flu with e-mail queries
You're all achy, coughing and feverish. Work is out of the question, but you're not sick enough to see a doctor. How nice it would be if someone checked in to ask how you're feeling.

Promoted by the U.S. as a treatment for opiate addiction, buprenorphine has become one more item for sale in the drug market. Reporter Jonathan Bor and photographer Kim Hairston spent over a year working on this two-part series exploring the roots of the HIV epidemic in Baltimore. The Sun investigates the potent and largely experimental blood-coagulating drug known as Recombinant Activated Factor VII. Nearly a century later, the people who lived through it and the victims' families still recall their experiences with the flu. The Sun received permission from R.J. Voigt, his mother, and Johns Hopkins Children's Center to be present during the last four weeks of R.J.'s life, except, at his mother's request, his death. |
